This is the final tutorial in the Getting Better Results series. You've set up your Interests, picked your provider, and tuned your settings. If something isn't working the way you expected, this is where to look.
Common Issues & Solutions
"Blocked by Reddit" Warning
What it means: Reddit has temporarily limited your access — you're making too many requests too quickly.
Why it happens: Reddit enforces rate limits on automated access. If your scan has many keywords or subreddits, the rapid succession of requests can trigger a block.
How to fix it:
- Increase the search delay — go to Settings → Reddit and raise the delay between searches. The default is 10 seconds; try 15 or 30 seconds for competitive niches.
- Reduce keywords or subreddits — fewer search queries per scan means fewer requests to Reddit.
- Use API mode instead of browser mode — if you have Reddit API credentials configured, Engaggit uses them automatically. API mode is less prone to blocking than browser-based scraping.
- Clear the browser cache — go to Settings → Reddit → Clear browser cache, then log in to Reddit again via the internal browser.
Prevention: Engaggit adds a configurable delay between searches by default (10 seconds). For most users, the defaults are enough. If you scan frequently with many keywords, bump the delay up.
"Cannot connect to Ollama"
What it means: Engaggit can't reach your local Ollama installation. The AI provider is offline or unreachable.
Why it happens: Ollama isn't running, the URL is wrong, or Ollama is listening on a different port.
How to fix it:
- Open the Ollama app — make sure it's running in your system tray or menu bar. If it's not installed, download it from ollama.ai.
- Check the base URL — in Settings → AI Providers, verify the URL is
http://localhost:11434(the Ollama default). - Try from terminal — run
ollama servein a terminal to start Ollama manually, then retry the scan.
If you're using a cloud-based AI provider (OpenAI, Gemini, etc.), this error won't appear — it only applies to Ollama.
"Invalid API Key"
What it means: The AI provider rejected your API key.
Why it happens: Wrong key, expired key, or the wrong provider is selected.
How to fix it:
- Double-check the key — copy and paste it again from your provider's dashboard. Keys starting with
sk-are for OpenAI; keys starting withsk-or-are for OpenRouter. - Verify the provider — make sure you selected the correct provider type (OpenAI, Gemini, DeepSeek, etc.) in the AI provider form.
- Regenerate the key — if the key was revoked or expired, generate a new one from your provider's dashboard and update it in Engaggit.
- Test the connection — click "Test connection" in the provider form to verify the key works before running a scan.
"Scan found no results"
What it means: Your search rules returned zero matching posts.
Why it happens: Keywords are too narrow, subreddits are inactive, or the time range is too short.
How to fix it:
- Broaden your keywords — add more synonyms or related phrases. Instead of one exact phrase, try 5–10 variations.
- Expand your subreddits — if you've limited to specific subreddits, try removing the subreddit filter and scan all of Reddit. The AI relevance scoring will filter for you.
- Extend the time range — switch from "Past 24 hours" to "Past week" to catch more posts.
- Lower the relevance threshold — if your threshold is set to 8, try lowering it to 5 or 6 to cast a wider net.
- Check for typos — a single misspelled keyword won't match anything.
"Scan stuck or frozen"
What it means: The scan isn't progressing — the progress bar hasn't moved in a while.
Why it happens: API connection issue, slow AI provider response, or network problem.
How to fix it:
- Check your internet connection — make sure you can reach your AI provider's API endpoint.
- Interrupt the scan — click the interrupt button (or close and reopen Engaggit) to stop the stuck scan.
- Check the AI provider — if you're using Ollama, verify it's running. If you're using a cloud provider, check their status page.
- Restart Engaggit — close the app entirely (including the system tray) and reopen it.
Note that closing the Engaggit window doesn't stop a scan — it continues in the background. Use the interrupt button to stop it explicitly.
Browser Cache Issues
If Reddit login isn't working in the built-in browser, or you're seeing unexpected errors during scans, clearing the browser cache often helps.
- Go to Settings → Reddit
- Click "Clear browser cache"
- Click "Open internal browser" to log in to Reddit again
- Retry your scan
This clears Reddit's session data, cookies, and cached pages. You'll need to log in again, but it resolves most browser-related issues.
Scan Errors Reference
When a scan completes with errors, Engaggit shows an error summary. Here are the most common ones:

1. Does Engaggit store my data in the cloud?
No. All your keywords, filters, AI prompts, and settings stay on your local machine. Engaggit never transmits your data to any server. The only data that leaves your machine is the Reddit posts sent to your AI provider for analysis (unless you use Ollama, which runs entirely locally).
2. Can I use Engaggit for multiple Reddit accounts?
Yes. You can switch accounts using the built-in browser — log out of one account and into another in Settings → Reddit → Open internal browser. For advanced setups (agencies managing multiple clients), you can use Reddit OAuth with proxy settings.

5. Can I use Engaggit without an AI provider?
No. AI is required for relevance scoring and draft generation. You can use Ollama for free local AI with no API key, or choose from 6 cloud-based providers.
6. Does Engaggit work with Windows and Mac?
Yes. Engaggit supports Windows 10+ and macOS 11+. On Windows, you may see a SmartScreen warning on first install — click "More info" then "Run anyway" to proceed.
7. Where is my data stored?
On Windows: %APPDATA%/engaggit/. On macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/engaggit/. You can open this folder from Settings → System → Open logs folder. If you need a fresh start, quit Engaggit, delete this folder, and relaunch — the onboarding flow will start from scratch.
8. How do I view the logs?
Go to Settings → System → Open logs folder. Logs are useful for debugging scan errors, AI provider issues, or connection problems. If you contact support, include the relevant log file.
