Quick Start

This guide walks you through setting up Engaggit and running your first scan in minutes.

First Launch

When you first open Engaggit, you will see the onboarding screen. It walks you through the setup process step by step:

1. Define your first interest
2. Set up your AI provider

The steps below follow the same flow and can be completed through the onboarding screen or the main interface.

Step 1: Create Your First Interest

An Interest defines what you want to monitor on Reddit.

1. Click "Add your first interest" (on the onboarding screen) or "Add Interest" in the sidebar.
2. Give your interest a name (e.g., "AI Tools for Designers").
3. Add at least one Search Rule with keywords (e.g., "AI design tool", "midjourney alternative").
4. Optionally specify subreddits to search within (e.g., r/graphic_design).
5. Describe "What I'm looking for" — a natural language explanation of what matters to you.
6. Describe "What to show in the draft" — instructions for the AI on how to write the comment.
7. Save the interest.

Step 2: Configure Your AI Provider

Before running a scan, you need at least one AI provider configured.

During Onboarding

After you save your first interest, the onboarding screen automatically moves to the AI provider stage:

1. Select a provider from the list (e.g., Ollama for local AI, or OpenAI for cloud-based).
2. Enter your API key (if using a cloud provider) or confirm the base URL (if using Ollama).
3. Click Fetch Models to load available models, then select one.
4. Continue to the main interface — the onboarding finishes here.

Changing the Provider Later

You can change your AI provider at any time in Settings:

1. Open Settings (gear icon in the sidebar).
2. Go to the AI Provider tab.
3. Select a provider from the list.
4. Enter your API key (if using a cloud provider) or confirm the base URL (if using Ollama).
5. Click Fetch Models to load available models, then select one.

TIP

If you are using Ollama locally, make sure the Ollama server is running before fetching models. The default base URL is http://localhost:11434.

Step 3: Run a Scan

1. Click "Scan now" in the sidebar.
2. Engaggit will:
   • Search Reddit using your keywords
   • Analyze each result with AI
   • Show matched posts in the Feed
3. Browse results, bookmark interesting posts, and review AI-generated drafts.

TIP

After you finish onboarding, Engaggit runs its first scan automatically. It also continues scanning in the background by default — the default scan interval is once per hour. You can change the interval in the sidebar, under "Scan interval".
