Scheduling Scans

Engaggit can run scans automatically on a schedule, so you never miss relevant Reddit discussions — even when the app is running in the background.

How Scheduling Works

When a schedule is active, Engaggit runs scans at the configured interval using the system tray process. The main window does not need to be open.

Setting Up a Schedule

  1. Find the Scan interval dropdown in the sidebar.
  2. Choose your preferred interval.

The sidebar is always visible, so you can change the interval at any time — including while a scan is running.

Available Intervals

IntervalUse Case
ManualOnly scan when you click "Scan now"
Every 5 minutesReal-time monitoring for time-sensitive opportunities
Every 15 minutesFrequent monitoring for active campaigns
Every 30 minutesRegular monitoring during business hours
Every 1 hourBalanced default for most users
Every 2 hoursLower frequency for general monitoring
Every 4 hoursPeriodic check-ins
Every 12 hoursTwice-daily sweeps
Every 24 hoursOnce-daily comprehensive scan

TIP

More frequent scans find time-sensitive posts early but consume more AI API credits. Start with 1 hour and adjust based on your needs.

System Tray Behavior

When you close the main window:

  1. Engaggit minimizes to the system tray (not quit)
  2. Scheduled scans continue running
  3. A desktop notification appears when a scan completes with new matches
  4. Right-click the tray icon to open the window, trigger a manual scan, or quit

You can configure the startup behavior in Settings → System:

  • Launch at startup — start Engaggit automatically when your computer boots

Desktop Notifications

Enable or disable scan completion notifications in Settings → Notifications:

  • Shows the number of new matches found
  • Clicking the notification opens the main window

Search Delay

Engaggit adds a configurable delay between Reddit search requests (default: 10 seconds). This prevents rate limiting and ensures reliable results. You can adjust this in advanced settings if needed.
