Running Scans

A scan is the process of searching Reddit and analyzing results with AI. You can run scans manually or let them happen automatically on a schedule.

Manual Scans

Click "Scan now" in the sidebar to start an immediate scan.

What Happens During a Scan

  1. Search Phase: Engaggit queries Reddit using each active interest's search rules. It fetches posts matching your keywords, filtered by subreddits and time range.

  2. Filter Phase: Body keyword inclusion/exclusion filters are applied locally to narrow results.

  3. Deduplication: Posts that appear in multiple searches are identified and processed only once.

  4. Analysis Phase: Each unique post is sent to your configured AI provider for relevance scoring and sentiment analysis.

  5. Draft Generation: Posts scoring above your threshold get an AI-generated comment draft (if the interest has draft instructions).

  6. Storage: Results are saved to the local database and appear in your feed.

Scan Progress

A progress bar at the bottom of the window shows the current scan status, including:

  • How many posts have been found
  • How many have been analyzed
  • Whether drafts are being generated

You can continue using the app while a scan runs in the background.

After a Scan

  • New matches appear in the Feed view
  • A desktop notification is shown (if enabled): "Scan complete — N new matches found"
  • You can review the scan details in the History → Scans tab

Scan Errors

If a scan encounters errors (e.g., Reddit rate limiting, AI provider timeouts), they are collected and displayed in an errors dialog when the scan completes. Errors do not stop the scan — partial results are still saved.
